Sprinkler Repair 102

sprinkler repair

You always want to water between 6-10 AM, as there is less wind and hot sun to detract from your watering, and your lawn has a full day to dry.

We’ve talked about two of the most common issues with sprinkler systems – what are some of the others? Remember, if you think that your sprinkler system may be suffering from any of these issues, consider contacting the professionals to confirm the issue and begin repairs.

Sprinkler System Running When It Shouldn’t

If your sprinkler system turns on when it shouldn’t be running – during the middle of the day, for example – check to make sure that your timer is set correctly. You always want to water between 6-10 AM, as there is less wind and hot sun to detract from your watering, and your lawn has a full day to dry. Make sure to adjust your timer settings to reflect that.
If your sprinkler system runs during a rainstorm, think about installing a rain shut-off device. This relatively inexpensive device prevents your sprinkler system and any other irrigation devices you may have from running during a rainstorm or after adequate amounts of rain have fallen. A rain shutoff device can save you between 3 and 15 percent of the annual operating expenses of an irrigation system. This means you will save money and have less issues to work about with your sprinkler system!

Sprinklers Will Not Retract

This problem is more of an eyesore and a nuisance than a serious problem with your sprinkler system. If your sprinkler heads aren’t retracting, there is probably debris surrounding the sprinkler heads may make it difficult for them to retract. Take some time and clean out any sticks, leaves, vines, etc. which might be preventing the sprinklers from retracting. If you’re still having problems, there may be an issue with the motors, which is a job best left to the professionals.
